It is with great delight that I write this post; with a surprise Christmas present which arrived in the (snail) mail yesterday from the Property Division of Wollongong City Council.
Bally’s Patch….we have a license!
Just over 12 months ago a phone call enquiring about the parcel of land known as Lot 21, Church St, Balgownie began this process. The following 12 months included a successful recipe of overwhelming support from the local community, inspiring enthusiasm from many familiar and new faces, great skill & knowledge, and a healthy dose of frustration just to keep us all motivated. We now have a name, a logo, a committee, a bank account (with a great balance!), a growing list of interested locals, and best of all the rights to use the land to create our garden on. I am thrilled, really.
I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season and hope you are all as excited as I am to start 2014 with a brand new community garden for Balgownie. I can’t wait!
I will arrange a meeting in January to begin construction planning as well as a few outstanding items relating to garden management.
As well, my sincere thanks to everyone involved in the recent Christmas Market Day at the BVCC, what a great event! We continue to learn each time we have a fundraising stall, and I look forward to the next. A special mention to Kristy from Creative Flow for creating such a wonderful cake to raffle in support of the garden.
